Bloomsbury Fashion Central and Applied Visual Arts trials

A trial for Bloomsbury Fashion Business Central and Bloomsbury Applied Visual Arts has been set up and will run until November 30th 2018. 

On and off-campus access is available. To access the trials click on the URLs below. If you are on-campus your access should authenticate automatically.   If you are off-campus:

  1. authenticate through Shibboleth, 
  2. choose DIT as your institution and then and
  3. log in using your DIT credentials i.e. Staff/Student Number and DIT email password

SAGE Products Trial



A trial for a number of SAGE products is now available. To access the content click on the relevant collection name below:

SAGE Business Cases is the first discipline-wide digital collection tailored to library needs. These cases bring business to life – inspiring researchers to develop their own best practices and prepare for professional success.

SAGE Video Education comprises of 140 hours and over 500 videos offering a practical view into a full range of teaching settings and situations, from early years to educational leadership, to support students needing to understand theory or how to apply it in practice. Contributors include leading authors Peter Smith on Bullying, Wendy W. Murawski on Co-Teaching, Julia Link Roberts on Gifted and Talented Education, and many more.

SAGE Video Sociology offers more than 120 hours of video covering the full spectrum of the Sociology discipline and supports students and researchers at all levels. An array of different video types are available, including multiple hours of In Practice videos that highlight careers and practitioners in the real world; tutorial videos that shed light on hot topics within the field; and case study videos that explore particular research and its impact on policy. 

SAGE Video Criminology & Criminal Justice offers more than 120 hours of video covering all branches of the Criminal Justice system, the Criminology & Criminal Justice Collection supports students and researchers at all levels via tutorial videos that take viewers step-by-step through the criminal investigation process; case studies that show how that research affects policy and practices; and films that take you inside forensics labs, correctional facilities, and court rooms.

SAGE Research Methods Video: Practical Research and Academic Skills is a new collection offering streaming video on the SAGE Research Methods platform. The collection offers support on the practical skills that you need to successfully complete your research. Key areas such as writing a research proposal, planning and designing a research project and securing ethical approval are explicitly covered. Practical skills such as project management, writing for publication, presenting work, and building networks are also presented through helpful explanatory videos. This video collection will give you the confidence to successfully navigate your research, take responsibility for your professional development and identify the transferable skills needed to progress your careers.

The trial runs until May 18th 2018. On-campus access only

Issue with access to Emerald journal articles and publications via Summon, ejournals and the Library Catalogue

Due to changes to Emerald's security requirements the database is no longer compatible with our Library Management System (LMS). This means you can't currently gain access to Emerald publications via Summon, the ejournals portal or our Library catalogue.

The following error message appears:

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /loi/jbim.
Reason: Error reading from remote server

Our systems librarian is currently working to resolve the issue. In the meantime if you wish to access an Emerald publication you must do so by searching directly in the Emerald database.

The steps below outline how to gain full text access to a subscribed Emerald journal via Summon:

1. If you get a proxy error check the source or publisher of the article by clicking on the Preview tab in Summon. (click on image to enlarge)















If it indicates Emerald as the source or publisher then you need to follow the steps below:

To access a particular journal article:

Access Emerald Premier directly and type in the name of the article in the search box (Click on images to enlarge):





To access a journal title:

Access Emerald Premier directly via the Databases A-Z page as illustrated above and search for the journal title:
