Need Help with Referencing?

Are you working on your dissertation? Are you finding it difficult to manage your references and to cite them properly?

Try registering yourself for an Endnote Basic account (it's free!) and download the plug-in for Word to help you to manage and format your references in the correct style (that's APA 6th in the College of Business).

Our guide to Endnote Basic will help you to get started with setting up your account, entering your references into Endnote Basic and pulling those references into your Word document.

Endnote classes 26th May & 3rd June

Looking for a way to manage your references for your dissertation? Aungier Street library is offering introductory Endnote Basic classes in the next couple of weeks to help you on your way.

Sessions will be held on at 11am on Tuesday 26th May and at 3pm on Wednesday 3rd June. Both sessions will cover the same topics:

• Setting up an Endnote Basic account.
• Manually adding references to your Endnote Basic account.
• Importing references from a database into Endnote Basic.
• Inserting, editing and deleting references into/from a Word document.
• Formatting citations and bibliographies in Word.

Sessions are open to all. Please send us a message via Ask a Librarian (make sure to choose "Aungier Street) or Direct Message us @DitAungierLib telling us your name, student number and which session you'd like to register for.

The sessions will be held in the library's Training Room.

The session will cover:

EndNote Desktop - subscription cancelled.

DIT Library Services has decided to end its DIT-wide subscription to the EndNote Desktop Bibliographic Management Software. The cancellation will take effect from April 30th 2010.
EndNote Web will continue to be available to all users through our subscription to the Web of Science databases.
The decision to cancel EndNote Desktop was taken reluctantly - in light of reduced budgets for resources and reduced staffing to provide user support. It follows a recent survey we undertook of DIT researchers which indicated that the level of usage does not merit the substantial investment involved.
The EndNote Desktop licence allows DIT to continue to use in perpetuity the software we have already. The latest Version X3 is now available and will be rolled out to library and laboratory computers over the next two weeks. Staff and students who wish to upgrade to VX3 on their personal computers should contact Fiachra Mangan immediately at 402 7176 or email him at fiachra.mangan@dit.ie

EndNote Training in February

Two EndNote training sessions will take place in February organised by the Staff Development Office and presented by Library Staff.

1)Introduction to Endnote takes place on Wednesday 11th February
2)Getting Even More from EndNote on Wednesday 25th February.

Time: 2.30pm to 4.00pm

EndNote - Reminder

Aungier Street library will be running an introductory Endnote training session on Thursday 31st January from 1.15 - 1.45. The venue is the library training room. The session will cover:· Introduction to Endnote· Creating an Endnote Library· Manually adding references to an Endnote library· Selecting a reference type and style· Inserting references into a Word document.· Deleting a reference from a Word document.

EndNote: managing references the easy way!

Millions of researchers, academics and students worldwide use EndNote to organise their references, create bibliographies and search online bibliographic databases. Now DIT staff and students are getting the opportunity to use this leading edge software.
Library Services are delighted to announce that we have negotiated an institutional licence for EndNote which allows staff and students to use the software both within and outside of the DIT network.
EndNote will allow you to:
Automatically create references, footnotes and bibliographies in your written research reports, assignments or dissertations.
Create and maintain your own reference database of citations by importing references from a variety of electronic sources such as library catalogues, databases etc.
Generate a bibliography in the correct citation style for publication.
The library will offer hands-on, practical training sessions on EndNote from next September. Individual staff or post-grads who would like training over the summer period should contact Allison at 3266, Israel at 7167 or Ciaran at 7166.
