Proquest Trial - Access to Current Irish Times Content

We previously mentioned that we have a trial at the moment to Proquest Historical Newspapers: The Irish Times and Weekly Irish Times which we're considering as an alternative to our current subscription to the Irish Times Digital Archive.

Since the Irish Times has recently moved to a paid subscription model for its online content, we are also reviewing our options regarding alternative means to access current Irish Times content.

Proquest has now offered us a trial to their Irish Times database. This provides access to the Irish Times content from 1995 to the present day (the current day's content is usually included from lunchtime each day).

Try out Proquest's Historical Newspapers: Irish Times - a possible alternative to the Irish Times Digital Archive

DIT Library Services currently subscribes to the Irish Times Digital Archive, which is a complete reproduction of every page of the Irish Times from 1859 to one week ago, searchable by keyword or date.

Given that the Irish Times has moved to a paid subscription model for its current content, we are also  reviewing our options regarding our access to the Irish Times historical content.

We have organised a trial to ProQuest Historical Newspapers: The Irish Times and the Weekly Irish Times, which is the database the Irish universities use access the Irish Times historical content.

Irish Times E-Paper: Changes in DIT users' access

The Irish Times has changed its supplier for the Irish Times e-paper, now called the “digital edition”.

As a result, access to the digital edition is now only available to individual subscribers and is not available via IP recognition (i.e. it is no longer available on a campus wide basis).

The library can therefore no longer provide DIT users with access to the digital edition. We have, however, negotiated a discounted individual subscription rate for DIT users of €50 per annum. This represents a 75% discount on the usual cost of €199 per annum.

This does not affect DIT Library’s subscription to the Irish Times Archive, nor does it affect our access to the Irish Times website.

Irish Times E-Paper and Archive

Apologies for the loss of the Irish Times e-paper and Archive for the last week or so. The problems have now been sorted out and the e-paper is again available via the Library Website. Login to www.dit.ie/library. Select Databases and Irish Times from the A-Z Link. Select e-paper from the toolbar and click on the image of the e-paper to access.

The e-paper can also be accesssed from outside of DIT by logging in with your staff or student number and Library PIN. Our subscription is limited to 5 simultaneous users so you may be advised to try again if this limit has been reached.

The Irish Times Archive which dates back to 1859 can be searched both internally and remotely using login and PIN.

Irish Times E-paper now Available

The Library now has 5 concurrent user licenses for the e-paper version of the Irish Times. This digital version re-produces the hard copy paper in exact replica.

Access has been set up through our IP address. Just click on "Today's epaper" from the toolbar at the top of the Irish Times homepage to gain access. See the user options at the bottom of the page to customise the paper style you wish to display.

This access is only available from DIT networked computers. The Library also subscribes to the Irish Times Archive.
