Westlaw UK: Migration to new platform

Westlaw UK has migrated to a new platform. Authentication using your TU Dublin credentials is now required for both on and off campus access. 

New features and functionality now available include:

• Updated, modern and user-friendly interface
• Enhanced search
• Enhanced document display
• Personalisations (such as setting your own Homepage, Favourites, Folders, History, and Annotations)
• Key date calendars
• Enhanced security

Arrow@TU Dublin change of email

Due to the TU Dublin email migration project, all Arrow account holders are asked to change their email address in their accounts. You can do this by going to:

3. Edit Profile, 
4. Insert your new TU Dublin email 
5. Select Update. 

Initially, this will create 2 accounts for the one name but ITC Support is in the process of merging TU Dublin and DIT Accounts.  Under GDPR only the account holder can amend the profile.

CONUL Treasures

CONUL Treasures, a new addition to the CONUL Website, is an online exhibition containing a sample of unique and distinct collections from within the CONUL Libraries.

In collaboration with the CONUL Unique and Distinct Collections Group, TU Dublin City Campus Library Services showcases a sample of its special collections in the online exhibition:

Emerald Insight New Digital Platform

Emerald Insight are launching their new digital platform on Thursday July 4th 2019. 

Emerald have updated their platform, "...to create a much better experience for the showcasing, broad dissemination and visibility of social science research for authors, readers, students, researchers and librarians. We have built the platform in partnership with our customers and users, and your needs are at the heart of the project."

The Emerald team have put together an FAQ document in relation to the update.

2019 Summer Services @ Aungier St. Library

Throughout the summer months, Aungier Street Library will open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. We are closed Saturday and Sundays.

We have put together a package of Summer Services aimed at bringing the library straight to you. These services will continue until term-time opening hours resume in September. The services include:

• Book Postal Scheme: Use the library catalogue to identify what books you need and we will send them to your home address. For further information or to send us a list of the books you need, email us at ast.library@dit.ie
• Book Return Bin: This is located just outside of the library door. The Aungier Street building is open from 8.00am to 9.00pm until mid-June and then 8.00am to 6.00pm over the summer. If we are closed, simply drop in your books in the “Blue Bin” and we will look after things from there.
• Ask a Librarian Service: Need help with sourcing information for your dissertation? Want to know how to use a particular database or e-journal? Email us at ast.library@dit.ie Queries can often be answered straight away but you are guaranteed an answer by the next working day. Our aim is to assist you in any way we can.
• Hard-copy Journal Articles: If the article you need is not available online but is in our hard-copy collection – we will make every effort to get it to you. 
• The Online Library: DIT Library Services subscribes to a wide range of electronic journals, e-books and academic databases which can be accessed off-campus. Our Off-Campus Access guide explains the authentication methods used to access these resources. Some resources require you to use your Library PIN to authenticate. If you need assistance in getting set up or in using any of our electronic resources please have a look at the search tips or contact us at ast.library@dit.ie or 01-402 3068.
• On-line Dissertations: Postgraduate dissertations in MSc in Strategic Management, MSc in Marketing, MSc in Finance, MSc in HRM and MSc in Digital Marketing are available online as well as in print in the library. You access specific ones by searching the catalogue.
• ALCID Cards and Letters of Introduction: If you are a Masters, PhD student or staff member, we can provide you with an ALCID card. This will enable you to use any or all of the university libraries in Dublin and nationwide for study and reference purposes (no borrowing). You can download the ALCID application form and bring or post the completed form to us to receive your ALCID card. We can also provide all other students with letters of introduction to colleges across Ireland and the UK – particularly during the summer. To request a letter of introduction contact the library at 01-402 3068 or email us at ast.library@dit.ie
• SCONUL Access Scheme: TU Dublin Staff and Research postgrads (i.e., MPhil and PhD students) can also avail of the SCONUL Access Scheme. This allows them to visit, study in, research and BORROW from 180 participating member libraries throughout Ireland and the UK. All Irish University libraries (except Trinity College Dublin) are members of the scheme. Further details of the scheme are available on the SCONUL Access website, or ring the Library at 01-402 3068.
• Remember: Your staff/student card also allows you access to TU Dublin campus libraries in Blachardstown and Tallaght.

Accessing exam papers

Find past exam papers under the 'Search Resources' menu, on the Library website at www.dit.ie/library:

Select which College your course is connected to (scroll down for further options):

Now select which academic year you wish to view past papers from:

If you are off-campus you will now be asked for a username and password in order to view the papers. To get the details of this username and password, please log in to this page with your student number and Library PIN. If you cannot remember your Library PIN, please contact Aungier St Library at (01) 4023068 or ast.library@dit.ie, and we can help you reset your password. 

For papers up to the 2016/2017 academic year, you will find them arranged by course code. But from 2017/2018 onward they are arranged by module code. You can find your module code on Webcourses, in your student handbook, in the TU Dublin programme catalogue, or from your lecturer or school administrator. 

All of the past papers are available in PDF format for you to download or view through the Library Catalogue.  

Emerald Database - Read-Only access Tuesday 5th February

Maintenance on Emerald’s research platform, Emerald Insight, is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 5 February 2019 beginning at 08:00 GMT - lasting for up to 12 hours.

During this time, the site will be placed into ‘read-only’ mode, making the following functionality unavailable for the duration of the upgrade:

• Activating access tokens
• Adding publications as favourites
• Alert subscriptions
• Any changes to ‘My Account’ and ‘Institutional Account’
• E-commerce
• Registration
• Search.

Should you access the website during this time, you will receive a notification that the site functionality is temporary unavailable within your browser. Please note that this may also affect some functionality on emeraldpublishing.com.

This essential website maintenance is part of Emerald’s customer focused development initiative, which aims to deliver an enhanced user experience to their customers.

Endnote Web connecting to DIT Library

Please be advised that at present, the connectors between Endnote Web and DIT Library catalogue are not working. This problem has been reported to Clarivate (Endnote), we are waiting for a solution.

SAGE Business Cases is the first discipline-wide digital collection tailored to library needs. These cases bring business to life – inspiring researchers to develop their own best practices and prepare for professional success.

SAGE Video Education comprises of 140 hours and over 500 videos offering a practical view into a full range of teaching settings and situations, from early years to educational leadership, to support students needing to understand theory or how to apply it in practice. Contributors include leading authors Peter Smith on Bullying, Wendy W. Murawski on Co-Teaching, Julia Link Roberts on Gifted and Talented Education, and many more.

SAGE Video Sociology offers more than 120 hours of video covering the full spectrum of the Sociology discipline and supports students and researchers at all levels. Issue with access to Emerald journal articles and publications via Summon, ejournals and the Library Catalogue

Due to changes to Emerald's security requirements the database is no longer compatible with our Library Management System (LMS). This means you can't currently gain access to Emerald publications via Summon, the ejournals portal or our Library catalogue.

The following error message appears:

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /loi/jbim.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

Our systems librarian is currently working to resolve the issue. In the meantime if you wish to access an Emerald publication you must do so by searching directly in the Emerald database.

The steps below outline how to gain full text access to a subscribed Emerald journal via Summon:

1. If you get a proxy error check the source or publisher of the article by clicking on the Preview tab in Summon. (click on image to enlarge)

If it indicates Emerald as the source or publisher then you need to follow the steps below:
